Azifast (Azithromycin) 500 for acne

Azifast 500 is from macrolide antibiotics family and is administered for treating infections caused by certain bacteria. Conditions include sexually transmitted diseases, pneumonia, bronchitis and infection of the lungs, ears, throat and skin. Azifast 500 inhibits the growth of bacteria and isn’t effective in treating viral infections.

Azifast (Azithromycin) uses

Azifast 500 is available in tablet as well as suspension and is to be administered with or without food daily for 3-5 days. Follow the instruction prescribed by your doctor or use it as directed on the label. Consult with your doctor on any information you would want on the medication. Don’t stop the administration of Azifast (Azithromycin) 500 halfway, if done so, the infection may reappear as soon as the medication is stopped. The bacteria may also develop resistance against the antibiotic.

Tips and warnings

·         Inform you doctor if you are allergic to any of the ingredients present in Azifast 500.

·         Azifast (Azithromycin) 500 may inter-react when administered with other drugs; inform your doctor if you are using any other vitamin supplement or drug for controlling blood pressure, diabetes or other ailments.

·         Your doctor may require changing the prescription in case you are using anticoagulants such as Coumadin, Digoxin, Ergotamine, etc.

·         In case you use antacids use 2 hours prior to using Azifast (Azithromycin) 500. You may also administer an antacid 4 hours after using Azifast 500.

·         Inform you doctor in case of any preexisting disease. Let him know if you ever suffered from Strokes, Cystic fibrosis, Kidney disease, liver dysfunctions or Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

·         Discuss with your doctor the effects of the drug on your health as well as the baby’s health in case of pregnancy and breast-feeding. Use the drug only if the benefits outweigh the adverse effects.

Azifast (Azithromycin) Side effects

Common side effects include stomach ache, diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach and mild skin rashes. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects become bothersome or do not go away.

Severe side effects includes allergic reaction ( symptoms includes skin rashes, hives, irritation, itching, trouble breathing, hoarseness, swelling of the throat, face, lips, tongues, tendons, hands, feet, ankles or lower legs. Jaundice and irregular heart beat also has been associated with the use of Azifast 500.  These are rare side effects, if any of these side effects occur, stop using the medication and consult with your doctor right away.
