Bactrim
Uses
Bactrim Forte is applied for taking care of infection
such as bronchitis, Urinary Tract Infection, shigellosis and traveler’s
diarrhea. The combination of Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole is also used to
check or prevent Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), a very severe category
of pneumonia. Patients with weak immune system, such as AIDS patients, transplant
patients, cancer patient, normally are victims of Pneumocystis carinii
pneumonia (PCP).
Bactrim Forte is an antibiotic which fights and destroys the
bacteria causing various infections. The
drug is available only on prescription for treating bacterial infection only.
Bactrim Forte doesn’t work on viral infection such as flu or common cold.
Precautions
and warnings

Avoid the drug if you are allergic to any of
its active ingredients. Inform you doctor if you have suffered from allergic
reaction to Trimethoprim and/ or Sulfamethoxazole in the past.

Certain drug may interact with the antibiotic
and cause serious side effects. Inform you doctor if you are using any other prescribed
medication, OTC drug or herbal supplement for prevailing health conditions.

Avoid tobacco and alcohol during therapy
period.

Inform you doctor of any prevailing health
condition which include liver problems, kidney disease, HIV or AIDS, Folate
deficiency, anemia, malabsorbtion syndrome, nutrition disorder, Asthma, low
platelets in the blood, megaloblastic, porphyria, acute allergies, high blood
pressure, diabetes and thyroid problems. It may require special tests or dose adjustment
for certain health conditions.

Forte Side effects
Although rare, side effects may occur on using Bactrim
Forte. Here is a list of side effects associated to the use of the drug:
Common
side effects
Light headache, feeling of weakness, passing of gas, nausea
and abdominal cramp.
Rare
side effects
Stomach pain, black stool, peeling skin, formation of blisters,
yellowing of skin, chest pain, dark urine, diarrhea, dizziness, headache,
itching, weakness, feeling of tiredness, muscle ache, joint pain, loss of
appetites, back pain, fever with or without chills, cough, sore throat, rashes,
pale skin, problem in urinating, mouth ulcers, swollen glands, white spots on
the lips or inside mouth, chest congestion, red eyes, nausea, unusual breath
odor, easy bruising, blood in cough or vomit, wheezing and change in skin
color. Consult a doctor if any of these Bactrim Forte side effects occur and
become persistent.
