Betnovate C Cream/ Ointment

Active Ingredient- Clioquinol and Betethasone Valerate.

Both Betnovate-C ointment and cream is made up of Clioquinol and Betethasone Valerate.

Betethasone Valerate belongs to the class of drug known as topical corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are drugs applicable for decreasing inflammation. Inflammation or swelling of the skin occurs because of allergic reactions to the skin, resulting from the discharge of various substances vital for the human immune system. Discharge of these substances stimulates the widening of the blood vessels thereby causing the irritated site in becoming itchy, painful, red and swollen, like as demonstrated in eczema or dermatitis.

Clioquinol contains antibacterial and antifungal properties and inhibits the production and growth of microorganisms. Clioquinol and Betethasone Valerate together forms Betnovate C cream and is applied for treating skin inflammation problems, which are already infectious or prone to infection.

Betnovate Uses

Betnovate C ointment or cream is used for treating various skin disorders which include Eczema, swelling of the skin near the anus or genitals, infected insect bites, prurigo nodularis, contact dermatitis, Psoriasis, Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE) and neurodermatitis.
Betnovate C may also be used for other skin conditions not mentioned above.

P.S- Betnovate ointment or cream should be used with caution in children.

 Not to be used in

·         Betnovate shouldn’t be used for treating fungal infection such as ringworm, athlete’s foot or candida skin infections.

·         Treating viral skin ailments like herpes simplex and chickenpox.

·         Skin infectivity caused by tuberculosis.

·         Skin contagion such as acne vulgaris or acne rosacea.

·         Perioral dermatitis (swelling and inflammatory skin rashes in the region of the mouth).

·         Treatment of skin ulcers.

·         Itching around anus or the genitals.

·         Extensive plague psoriasis.

·         Thin skins areas or region of the skin with broken veins. 

Avoid Betnovate C cream or ointment if you are sensitive to any of its active ingredients. Consult a doctor in case you have suffered from any hypersensitivity to Clioquinol and/ or Betethasone Valerate in the past.

Betnovate Side effects

Alteration of skin pigmentation, thinning of the skin, stretch marks, hypertrichosis or excessive hair growth and broadening of the veins especially around the face have been associated to  the side effects of Betnovate C cream.

Just that an adverse reaction is compiled here doesn’t mean every individual using the medication are subject to experience it.
